the short
For my first project in Stanford Student Enterprises' Cardinal Labs, we were tasked with redesigning the SSE website. We wanted to create a modern, energetic website to reflect the organization's identity - we moved away from Stanford's traditional web presence and branched out into a more colorful, geometric design. Though our original design was live for a number of months (second picture), we eventually rebranded in order to celebrate SSE's 75th anniversary (first picture).
research
We began by conducting UX research including card sorts and reconstructing our information architecture. We also researched various student organization websites in order to best orient ourselves amongst the multitude of student organization brands.
design
Our design process started with layout sketches in order to cement the general structure of the website. We then created style tiles, including colors, fonts, and general motifs. Next came mock ups of central pages constructed using Figma - due to the small size of our team, we were able to use these pages as a jumping off place for development.
building
We used Webflow in order to build a responsive, clean, and easy to maintain website. In accounting for the upkeep needs of the website, we felt that a platform such as Webflow would allow for an optimal balance of customizability (for developers) and approachability (for anyone needing to edit).
re-design
In accordance with Stanford Student Enterprises' 75th anniversary rebranding project, our team updated the design of the website to fit newly rebranded logos. This redesign process consisted mainly of color and gradient changes, giving the website a more modern, jewel-colored aesthetic. We also simplified a few gradient designs and interactions, fully incorporating the new logo's color scheme into the details of the new version of the website.
